Limit micrometres are useful for ensuring that workpieces are within tolerance limits and for taking highly accurate outside dimension measurements. Both sets of anvils and spindles are made of hardened steel and fabricated with extreme precision. Each thimble and spindle is self-contained and has the same measurement precision. For exact, repeatable measurements, a ratchet-stop mechanism applies homogeneous pressure to a workpiece.
