The study of hydraulic power transmission, hydraulic fluid characteristics, and their capacity to transmit power all are very important in hydraulic power and motion control. The original motion control technology, fluid power, has been employed for everything from handling and injection moulding to pressing and packaging. Fluid power evolved to meet this challenge with servo and proportional control, providing affordable and high-performance options, as manufacturers' demands for precision and control increased. But when servo motor technology advanced, it directly competed with fluid power motion control, and it eventually took the place of fluid power systems in many applications. Despite this, fluid power is still essential for motion control and need to be taken into account at all times.
