Product Description

The Mitutoyo 293-679-20 QuickMike is a large-range digital outside micrometer designed for measuring components from 3–4.2" (76.2–106.68 mm). Its QuickMike mechanism provides a rapid 10 mm (.4") spindle feed per thimble rotation, helping reduce the number of rotations required when setting the tool around larger workpieces.

The micrometer provides ±.00015" (±3.81 µm) instrumental accuracy with .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution. Inch and metric units can be switched directly on the display, making the tool suitable for inspection work involving drawings and specifications in different measurement systems.

A 3" standard bar is supplied for origin setting. The ABSOLUTE linear scale retains the established origin when the micrometer is switched on, reducing the need for repeated origin resetting. The 10 mm character LCD provides a clear digital reading, while MIN Hold and function lock support routine inspection work.

The carbide-tipped measuring faces have a micro-lap finish for consistent contact with the workpiece. The non-rotating spindle has a 6.35 mm diameter and operates with a measuring force of 5–12 N.

The 293-679-20 is rated IP65 for protection against dust and coolant, making it suitable for machine-shop environments where the measuring tool may be exposed to workshop contaminants. Digimatic SPC data output also allows measurement results to be transferred to compatible data collection and quality-control systems.

The standard package includes one SR44 battery, a 3" setting standard and a fitted plastic case.

Who This Product Is Best For

The Mitutoyo 293-679-20 is suitable for machine shops, heavy-equipment workshops, oilfield equipment service companies, aerospace MRO operations, maintenance teams and calibration or quality-control departments measuring large outside diameters.

Typical applications include large pistons, pump and impeller hubs, bearing housings, coupling hubs, large shafts and pipe or fitting components within the 3–4.2" measurement range.

It is particularly useful where inspectors work with both inch and metric drawings and need a large-range micrometer with rapid spindle movement and digital data output.

How to Use / How It Works

  1. Set the measurement origin
Use the supplied 3" standard bar to establish the reference according to the micrometer's setting procedure.

  2. Select the measurement unit
Switch the display between inch and metric to match the engineering drawing or inspection requirement.

  3. Position the micrometer
Place the carbide measuring faces around the outside diameter of the component while keeping the frame properly aligned with the measurement axis.

  4. Adjust the spindle
Use the rapid QuickMike spindle feed to approach the measurement size, then use the ratchet friction thimble to complete the measurement with the appropriate measuring force.

  5. Read and record the result
Read the digital value on the LCD. Use MIN Hold when the minimum reading is required, or transfer the measurement through the Digimatic SPC output when connected to a compatible data system.
