Product Description
The Mitutoyo 293-678-20 QuickMike is a digital outside micrometer designed for larger components measuring from 2–3.2" (50.8–81.28 mm). Its QuickMike mechanism moves the spindle 10 mm (.4") per thimble rotation, helping reduce the number of turns required when adjusting the micrometer across large diameters.
The micrometer provides ±.00015" (±3.81 µm) instrumental accuracy with .00005" (0.001 mm) digital resolution. Inch and metric units can be switched directly on the display, allowing one instrument to be used with drawings and inspection requirements in either measurement system.
A 2" standard bar is supplied for origin setting. The ABSOLUTE linear scale retains the established origin when the micrometer is switched on, reducing the need for repeated origin adjustment. The 10 mm character LCD provides a clear digital reading, while MIN Hold and function lock support measurement and inspection workflows.
The measuring faces are carbide-tipped with a micro-lap finish for consistent contact with finished surfaces. The 6.35 mm diameter spindle is non-rotating, and the ratchet friction thimble helps provide controlled measuring force within the specified 5–12 N range.
The 293-678-20 has an IP65 rating for protection against dust and coolant, making it suitable for workshop environments where measuring tools may encounter machining fluids and contaminants.
Digimatic SPC data output allows readings to be transferred to compatible data collection systems for quality-control and inspection records.
The standard package includes one SR44 battery, a 2" standard bar for origin setting and a fitted plastic case.

Who This Product Is Best For
The Mitutoyo 293-678-20 is suitable for machine shops, oil and gas service companies, heavy-vehicle workshops, aerospace MRO operations, maintenance teams and quality-control or calibration departments measuring larger outside diameters.
Typical applications include valve bodies, pistons, large bearing races, drill-string components, flange hubs, shafts and other machined components within the 2–3.2" range.
It is especially useful when inspectors work with both inch and metric drawings and need a large-range micrometer with rapid spindle movement and digital measurement output.
How to Use / How It Works
-
Set the measurement origin
Use the supplied 2" standard bar to establish the reference according to the micrometer's setting procedure. -
Select the measurement unit
Switch the display between inch and metric to match the drawing or inspection requirement. -
Position the micrometer
Place the carbide measuring faces around the outside diameter of the component and align the micrometer correctly with the measurement axis. -
Adjust the spindle
Use the rapid spindle movement to approach the measurement size, then use the ratchet friction thimble for final contact. -
Read and record the measurement
Read the digital value on the LCD. Use MIN Hold when required, or transfer the reading through the Digimatic SPC output to a compatible data collection system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What range does the Mitutoyo 293-678-20 cover?
It measures outside dimensions from 2–3.2" (50.8–81.28 mm) and supports inch or metric display.
How accurate is the 293-678-20?
The specified instrumental error is ±.00015" (±3.81 µm), with .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution.
Can it switch between inch and metric?
Yes. The display can be switched between inch and millimetre measurement.
How fast does the QuickMike spindle move?
