 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Mitutoyo 293-666-20 QuickMike is a metric digital outside micrometer designed for fast measurement of components from 0 to 30 mm. It is particularly useful in production environments where operators need to inspect large numbers of small shafts, pins, bushings and other precision-machined parts.

Unlike conventional micrometers that may require many thimble rotations to cover a larger opening range, the QuickMike spindle advances 10 mm per thimble rotation. This means the complete 0–30 mm measuring range can be covered in approximately three rotations. The ratchet friction thimble applies a controlled measuring force of 5–12 N for consistent contact with the workpiece.

The instrument provides 0.001 mm resolution and ±2 µm instrumental accuracy. Its carbide-tipped measuring faces feature a micro-lap finish with 0.3 µm flatness and 2 µm parallelism. The 6.35 mm diameter spindle is non-rotating, helping maintain stable contact with the measured surface.

The Digimatic ABSOLUTE linear scale retains the established origin after power-off, so the micrometer does not require routine re-zeroing at every startup. The LCD has 10 mm-high characters for clear reading, while MIN Hold can retain the minimum measurement during inspection.

The -20 generation has an IP65 rating for protection against workshop dust and coolant exposure. Digimatic SPC output allows measurement values to be transferred to compatible inspection and data-collection systems.

The 293-666-20 does not require a standard bar for origin setting. The reference position is established by closing the measuring faces and setting the origin at 0 mm. An SR44 battery and fitted plastic case are supplied.

For measurements beyond 30 mm, the Mitutoyo 293-667-20 extends the range to 25–55 mm. For inch-based applications, select the appropriate QuickMike model for the required measuring range and unit system.

WHO THIS PRODUCT IS BEST FOR

The Mitutoyo 293-666-20 is suited to CNC machine shops, automotive component manufacturers, production lines, maintenance teams and quality-control laboratories that measure small metric components repeatedly.

Typical applications include:

  • Dowel pins

  • Small turned shafts

  • Bushings

  • Fastener shanks

  • Valve stems

  • Small bearing components

  • Thin plate and gasket material

  • Precision-turned parts up to 30 mm

Its fast 10 mm-per-turn spindle makes it particularly useful where operators frequently change between different component sizes within the 0–30 mm range.

HOW TO USE / HOW IT WORKS

  1. Clean the measuring faces: Remove dirt, oil or chips from the carbide measuring surfaces and the workpiece.

  2. Set the origin: Close the measuring faces using the ratchet and establish the 0.000 mm reference position.

  3. Open the spindle quickly: Turn the thimble to open the measuring faces beyond the size of the component. Each full rotation provides 10 mm of spindle movement.

  4. Position the micrometer: Place the measuring faces squarely against the outside surface being inspected.

  5. Apply measuring force: Close the spindle using the ratchet friction thimble until the appropriate contact is achieved.

  6. Read and record: Read the measurement on the 0.001 mm-resolution LCD. Use MIN Hold when monitoring minimum values during repetitive inspection.

  7. Transfer data when required: Connect compatible Digimatic SPC equipment to transfer measurements to an inspection or data-logging system.
