PRODUCT SUMMARY

The Mitutoyo 122-102-10 blade micrometer measures groove and keyway diameters from 25–50 mm with 0.01 mm graduation and ±3 µm accuracy. Its Type A hardened steel blade and non-rotating spindle provide controlled access to narrow features that standard micrometers may not reach.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Mitutoyo 122-102-10 Series 122 blade micrometer is designed for measuring groove diameters, keyways, snap-ring grooves and other narrow features where a conventional micrometer cannot easily reach. Its 25–50 mm measuring range makes it suitable for dimensional inspection of small shafts, pins, turned components and other machined parts.

The micrometer uses a Type A hardened steel blade with a 0.75 mm thickness, allowing the measuring faces to enter narrow grooves and slots. The non-rotating spindle helps maintain blade alignment as the spindle closes, making the instrument suitable for measurements where a conventional rotating spindle could twist across the feature.

A ratchet stop provides a constant 3–8 N measuring force, helping maintain consistent contact during repeated measurements. The instrument provides ±3 µm accuracy, 0.01 mm graduation and 3 µm measuring-face parallelism for precision dimensional inspection.

The spindle uses a 0.5 mm pitch, while the metric scale is presented on a satin chrome-finished thimble and sleeve designed to improve scale visibility under workshop lighting. The instrument is an analog mechanical micrometer intended for direct reading from the sleeve and thimble.

Because the measuring range starts at 25 mm, a standard bar is supplied for zero-setting and reference checking. The 122-102-10 has a main-unit mass of approximately 300 g and is supplied in a fitted protective case.

For larger features, the Mitutoyo 122-103-10 covers 50–75 mm and uses the same Series 122 blade-micrometer concept.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Access narrow features: The Type A blade design is suited to grooves, keyways and other recessed features across the 25–50 mm range.

  • Precision measurement: ±3 µm accuracy and 0.01 mm graduation support dimensional inspection.

  • Non-rotating spindle: Helps keep the 0.75 mm blade aligned with the feature during measurement.

  • Consistent measuring force: The ratchet stop provides a constant 3–8 N measuring force.

  • Hardened steel blade: Designed for regular workshop and inspection use.

  • Easy scale reading: Satin chrome thimble and sleeve help improve visibility during manual measurements.

  • Simple reference setting: A standard bar is included for zero-setting.

  • Easy to handle: The approximately 300 g main unit is supplied in a fitted case.

WHO THIS PRODUCT IS BEST FOR

The Mitutoyo 122-102-10 is suitable for CNC turning shops, automotive component manufacturers, pump and valve repair workshops, maintenance teams and quality-control departments working with features in the 25–50 mm range.

It is useful for measuring shaft grooves, keyways, snap-ring grooves, spline roots and other narrow machined features. Quality inspectors can use it for first-off and final inspection, while machinists can check groove dimensions during production and maintenance technicians can inspect worn shafts before repair or replacement.

It is particularly appropriate where components are dimensioned in millimetres and the measurement feature is recessed or difficult to access with a conventional micrometer.

HOW TO USE / HOW IT WORKS

  1. Clean the blade and spindle measuring surfaces before use.

  2. Check the micrometer against the supplied standard bar and verify the reference setting.

  3. Open the micrometer slightly wider than the groove or keyway.

  4. Position the blade and spindle squarely inside the feature being measured.

  5. Turn the ratchet stop until the measuring force is applied consistently.

  6. Read the sleeve and thimble scale in 0.01 mm increments.

  7. Record the measurement while maintaining correct alignment with the feature.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Mitutoyo 122-102-10 blade micrometer used for?

It is designed for measuring groove diameters, keyways, snap-ring grooves and other narrow features from 25–50 mm. Its blade-shaped measuring design allows access to features that may be difficult to measure with a conventional micrometer.

What is the accuracy of the Mitutoyo 122-102-10?

The 122-102-10 provides ±3 µm accuracy with a 0.01 mm graduation. The specified measuring-face parallelism is 3 µm.

What type of blade does the 122-102-10 use?

It uses a Type A hardened steel blade with a 0.75 mm blade thickness.

Why does the 122-102-10 use a non-rotating spindle?

The non-rotating spindle helps prevent the blade from twisting across the groove during measurement and helps maintain alignment with the feature.

What is the measuring force?

The ratchet stop provides a constant measuring force of approximately 3–8 N.

Is a standard bar included?

Yes. A standard bar is included for zero-setting and reference checking, since the micrometer's range starts at 25 mm rather than zero.

What is the difference between the 122-102-10 and 122-103-10?

The 122-102-10 covers 25–50 mm, while the 122-103-10 covers 50–75 mm. Both are Series 122 blade micrometers with a Type A blade design.

What is the mass of the 122-102-10?

The main micrometer unit has a specified mass of approximately 300 g.
