The Rubert 503 is an ISO 5436-1 type D precision reference specimen with a 4 x 1.25 mm random profile and a roughness value of Ra = 0.1 µm (4 µin). It is used for checking and calibrating surface measuring instruments, giving a known random-profile reference. It is offered in two versions: 503E, with a hard nickel-boron top layer, and 503X, without a top layer.
