Product Description
Large internal bores in engines, gearboxes, pumps, compressors, and heavy equipment can develop dimensional variation, taper, or ovality through wear and machining. Accurate inspection at multiple depths helps determine whether a component remains within the required dimensional limits.
The Mitutoyo 568-936 Digital ABS Borematic interchangeable head set provides one measurement system for bore sizes from 2–4" (50.8–101.6 mm). It combines one 568-015 ABSOLUTE display unit with four interchangeable heads covering 2–2.5", 2.5–3", 3–3.5", and 3.5–4".
The three-point self-centering measuring method helps position the head consistently inside the bore. This makes it suitable for checking internal diameters, taper, and ovality at different measurement depths. TiN-coated measuring contact points are designed for repeated inspection and can reach close to the bottom of blind holes.
The gauge provides .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution and uses an electrostatic capacitance ABSOLUTE encoder. The 8.5 mm LCD display rotates through 330° and supports inch/metric measurement. The ABSOLUTE system helps retain the established origin without requiring repeated zero-setting during normal operation.
For tolerance inspection, the display supports user-defined upper and lower GO/NO-GO limits with judgement zoom. Other functions include ZERO/ABS, 2-point preset, data hold, error alarm, low-battery alert, and function lock.
The 568-936 also supports Digimatic SPC data output. Measurement data can be transferred using SPC cables 905338 or 905409, USB Input Tool Direct 06ADV380F, or U-WAVE-T wireless connectivity through the appropriate cable.
The set includes adaptor 216558 and setting rings 177-315 and 177-319. The correct head is fitted to the 568-015 display unit and mastered using the appropriate setting ring before measurement.
For applications where separate complete gauges are preferred for different bore ranges or operators, compare the Mitutoyo 568-968 and 568-969 complete unit sets.

Who This Product Is Best For
The Mitutoyo 568-936 is suitable for workshops and inspection teams that regularly measure large internal bores between 2" and 4" and want multiple measuring ranges from one display unit.
Typical users include:
-
Engine rebuilding workshops
-
Heavy-equipment service companies
-
Fleet maintenance workshops
-
Compressor repair teams
-
Pump and gearbox service companies
-
Power-generation maintenance teams
-
CNC machining and quality-control departments
-
Industrial equipment inspection teams
Typical applications include engine cylinder bores, cylinder liners, gearbox and axle housings, compressor bodies, pump casings, large bushings, bearing seats, and other machined internal diameters within the 2–4" range.
How to Use / How It Works
1. Select the correct measuring head.
Choose the head covering the required bore size: 2–2.5", 2.5–3", 3–3.5", or 3.5–4". Attach it to the 568-015 display unit using adaptor 216558.
2. Master the measuring head.
Use the appropriate setting ring supplied with the set. Insert the measuring head into the setting ring and establish the reference using the ZERO/ABS or preset function.
3. Measure the bore.
Operate the snap-open lever, position the head inside the bore, and release it so the three-point contacts self-centre. Take measurements at the top, middle, and bottom when checking for taper.
4. Check dimensional variation.
Take measurements at appropriate positions and depths to identify changes in diameter, taper, or ovality.
5. Evaluate and record the result.
Use the displayed measurement with configured GO/NO-GO limits, data hold, or transfer the result to compatible SPC software.
When changing to another interchangeable head, follow the appropriate mastering procedure before continuing measurement.
