Product Summary

The Mitutoyo 568-464 Borematic bore gauge 0.5-0.65 inch measures internal bores from 12.7 to 16.51 mm, including pressed bushings where the bore can change after installation. Its three-point self-centering measuring head provides repeatable readings, while TiN-coated contact points reach close to the bottom of suitable blind holes. With ±.00025" (±5 µm) accuracy, .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution, GO/NO-GO judgement, and SPC output, it supports efficient precision inspection. Product Description

When a bronze or steel bushing is pressed into a housing, its internal diameter can change after installation. Measuring the bushing before fitting may therefore not represent the final running clearance. The Mitutoyo 568-464 Borematic bore gauge is designed to check the bore after pressing and compare measurements at different depths.

The gauge covers .500–.650" (12.7–16.51 mm) and uses a three-point self-centering measuring system. The snap-open lever allows the operator to squeeze, insert, and release the measuring head inside the bore. The contact points centre themselves on the internal diameter, helping reduce variation caused by operator positioning.

For bushing inspection, a reading can be taken close to the mouth and another deeper inside the bore. Comparing the two measurements can help identify taper or bell-mouth conditions without removing the component or transferring the measurement to another instrument.

The gauge provides ±.00025" (±5 µm) accuracy with .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution. Its LCD has 8.5 mm digits and a 330° rotatable display, allowing the reading to be positioned for convenient viewing.

TiN-coated measuring contact points can reach close to the bottom of suitable blind holes. For longer housings, the optional 150 mm extension rod 952621 provides additional reach where applicable.

The electrostatic capacitance ABSOLUTE encoder maintains the measurement origin for the battery life and supports unlimited response without over-speed errors. The gauge also supports GO/NO-GO judgement using user-defined upper and lower limits, making it suitable for quick tolerance checks.

Measurement results can be held on the display or transferred through Digimatic SPC output. Compatible connectivity includes SPC cables 905338 (1 m) and 905409 (2 m), USB Input Tool Direct 06ADV380F, and U-WAVE-T wireless connectivity using the applicable connecting cable.

The Mitutoyo 568-464 sits between the 568-463, covering .425–.500", and the 568-465, covering .650–.800". For applications requiring multiple sizes, the 568-966 set provides a broader Borematic measurement solution.

Key Benefits

  • .500–.650" measuring range: Covers internal diameters from 12.7 to 16.51 mm.

  • Designed for bushing inspection: Check pressed bushings after installation when the final bore condition matters.

  • Three-point self-centering: The measuring head centres within the bore for repeatable internal diameter readings.

  • High accuracy: Provides ±.00025" (±5 µm) accuracy for precision inspection.

  • Fine resolution: Measures with .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution.

  • Taper and bell-mouth checking: Compare readings at different depths to identify bore variation.

  • Snap-open operation: One-handed squeeze, insert, and release action speeds up routine measurements.

  • Blind-hole reach: TiN-coated contacts can reach close to the bottom of suitable blind holes.

  • Optional extension: The 150 mm extension rod 952621 can provide additional reach for applicable housings.

  • ABSOLUTE encoder: Maintains the origin and avoids over-speed errors during rapid movement.

  • GO/NO-GO judgement: Set upper and lower limits for quick tolerance evaluation.

  • 330° rotatable display: Position the LCD for easier reading around the workpiece.

  • SPC data output: Send measurement data to compatible SPC equipment for quality records.

  • Inch/metric operation: Switch between inch and millimetre measurement units.

  • Long battery life: Uses one SR44 battery with approximately 5,000 hours of specified operation.

  • Linkage pivot bores

  • Internal diameter inspection after bushing installation

  • Bore taper and bell-mouth inspection

  • In-process quality control

How to Use / How It Works

  1. Prepare a setting reference: Use a suitable setting ring covering the .500–.650" range. The matching setting ring is sold separately.

  2. Set the origin: Insert the gauge into the setting ring, press ORIGIN, and enter the certified ring dimension according to the instrument procedure.

  3. Set tolerances: Enter the upper and lower limits if GO/NO-GO judgement is required.

  4. Measure near the entry: Squeeze the snap-open lever, insert the measuring head near the mouth of the bore, release it, and allow the three-point head to self-centre.

  5. Measure deeper: Repeat the measurement at a deeper position inside the bushing or housing.

  6. Compare readings: Compare measurements from different depths to identify possible taper or bell-mouth conditions.

  7. Record the result: Hold the measurement or transfer it through a compatible SPC cable, USB Input Tool Direct, or U-WAVE-T system.

 Frequently Asked Questions

What range does the Mitutoyo 568-464 measure?

The 568-464 measures .500–.650" (12.7–16.51 mm) internal diameters and supports inch or millimetre measurement.

Can the Mitutoyo 568-464 measure pressed bushings?

Yes. It is particularly suitable for checking the internal diameter of bushings after they have been pressed into a housing.

Can it check taper inside a bushing?

Yes. Take readings near the entry and farther into the bore, then compare the measurements to identify changes in diameter that may indicate taper or bell-mouth conditions.

What accuracy does the 568-464 provide?

The specified accuracy is ±.00025" (±5 µm) with .00005" (0.001 mm) resolution.

Can the gauge measure blind holes?

Its TiN-coated measuring contacts can reach close to the bottom of suitable blind holes. Actual reach depends on the bore geometry and application.

Is an extension rod available?

Yes. The optional 150 mm extension rod is part number 952621 and can provide additional reach for applicable measurement requirements.

Does the 568-464 support GO/NO-GO inspection?

Yes. The gauge supports user-set upper and lower limits for GO/NO-GO judgement, with a judgement zoom display.

Can measurement results be transferred to an SPC system?

Yes. The gauge provides Digimatic SPC output and can connect through compatible SPC cables, USB Input Tool Direct, or U-WAVE-T wireless connectivity.

Which Borematic model should I choose?

Choose the model according to the bore diameter. The 568-463 covers .425–.500", the 568-464 covers .500–.650", and the 568-465 covers .650–.800". The 568-966 set is suitable when multiple sizes across the .500–1.000" range are required.
