Part No. AVU-2-A

Product Overview

The Dwyer AVU-2-A is a duct-mount air velocity transmitter designed to provide reliable airflow feedback for HVAC control, energy management and building automation applications. It measures air velocity from 0–1575 FPM (0–8 m/s) and provides a linear 4–20 mA signal proportional to the measured airflow velocity.

The Series AVU uses thermal sensing technology to measure heat loss from its sensing elements in the air stream and calculate air velocity. Its drift-resistant design helps maintain consistent performance across the measurement range.

The 4–20 mA loop output is suitable for connection to compatible HVAC controllers and building management systems, with a 700 Ω loop resistance for signal transmission over longer cable runs.

The transmitter features a NEMA 6 (IP67) enclosure rating, except at the sensing point, for use in demanding plant-room and HVAC environments. Its 240 × 19 mm probe can be mounted in any orientation provided that the sensing element is correctly aligned with the airflow.

Electrical connections are made through screw terminals and a cable gland suitable for 4–8 mm cable. The AVU-2-A operates from 24 VDC and carries CE approval.

For applications requiring a lower measurement range or a 0–10 VDC output, compare the Dwyer AVUB-1-V.

How to Install & Use It

  1. Install the probe in the duct with the sensing element aligned with the airflow.
  2. Connect the transmitter to the required 24 VDC power supply.
  3. Wire the 4–20 mA output to the compatible controller or BMS input.
  4. Use screened cable where electrical noise may affect signal integrity.
  5. Power the transmitter and allow the reading to settle.
  6. Verify the measured airflow against the expected operating condition.

Frequently Asked Questions

What air velocity range does the Dwyer AVU-2-A measure?

The AVU-2-A measures from 0–1575 FPM (0–8 m/s).

What output signal does the AVU-2-A provide?

It provides a linear 4–20 mA output proportional to air velocity.

How accurate is the Dwyer AVU-2-A?

The transmitter is rated at ±5% of full scale accuracy.

How does the AVU-2-A measure air velocity?

It uses thermal sensing technology to measure heat loss from the sensing elements in the air stream and calculates the corresponding air velocity.

What power supply does it require?

The AVU-2-A requires 24 VDC, with a supply tolerance of +10% / −15%.

Can the probe be mounted in different orientations?

Yes. The probe can be mounted in any orientation provided the sensing element is correctly aligned with the airflow.

What is the difference between the AVU-2-A and AVUB-1-V?

The AVU-2-A measures up to 1575 FPM (8 m/s) and provides a 4–20 mA output. The AVUB-1-V measures up to 785 FPM (4 m/s) and provides a 0–10 VDC output. Selection depends on the required measurement range and controller input.
