The DeFelsko VIS2 is SSPC VIS 2, the standard method for evaluating the degree of rusting on painted steel or iron surfaces. It rates rusting on a zero to ten scale based on the percentage of visible rust, using 27 colour reference photographs with matching black and white images for rust grades 1 to 9. Maintenance inspectors use it to assess existing coatings.
