Product Overview

Two-point bore gauges depend on the operator finding the true diameter by rocking the gauge, so readings can vary from person to person. The Mitutoyo 468-272 solves that with three self-centring anvils spaced at 120°, which locate on the bore automatically and provide accurate inside-diameter measurement across a 3-3.5" (76.2-88.9 mm) range.

The contact points are TiN (titanium nitride) coated for durability and impact resistance, and they allow measurement right to the bottom of a blind hole. A ratchet stop applies constant measuring force, while the large LCD reads to 0.00005" / 0.001 mm with inch/mm switching. It is genuine Mitutoyo, supplied through an authorised distributor.

Typical uses include machine shops inspecting bores, bushings and cylinders; quality labs needing operator-independent bore readings; and blind-hole measurement in drilled and bored parts. Functions include zero/ABS setting, presetting, data hold and data output, along with low-battery and error alarms. The data output lets readings go directly to an SPC or data collection system, while an optional extension rod allows deep holes to be measured.

For the best accuracy, keep the measuring head square to the bore axis, measure at more than one depth to check for taper or ovality, and allow the part and instrument to reach the same temperature before measuring.

Because a three-point instrument must be set against a known diameter, a setting ring is needed for origin setting. Setting rings are optional accessories, so ask our team to quote the matching ring with your order. General Tech can also arrange calibration.

Who This Product Is Best For

  • Machine shops inspecting bores, bushings and cylinders

  • Quality labs needing operator-independent bore readings

How to Specify & Install It

  1. Set the origin using a setting ring of known diameter.

  2. Insert the measuring head squarely into the bore.

  3. Turn the ratchet stop until it clicks and allow the anvils to self-centre.

  4. Read the measurement on the display or transfer the value through the data output.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a three-point bore micrometer work?

Three anvils spaced at 120° contact the bore simultaneously and self-centre, allowing the instrument to measure the true inside diameter.

Do I need a setting ring?

Yes. A setting ring is used for origin setting. Setting rings are optional accessories, so our team can quote a suitable ring with the micrometer.

Should I choose the 468-272 or the 468-273?

The 468-273 covers 3.5-4" (88.9-101.6 mm), while the 468-272 covers 3-3.5" (76.2-88.9 mm). Select the model based on the bore diameter you need to measure.

How should I care for the instrument?

Wipe the measuring faces clean after use and store the instrument in its case away from heat, humidity and coolant. Remove the battery if it will be stored for a long period. Regular calibration helps maintain measurement reliability.

Can the instrument be calibrated?

Yes. General Tech Saudi provides calibration services for dimensional instruments. Ask our team about calibration when you order.

Can you supply other Mitutoyo instruments in the same order?

Yes. General Tech supplies a wide range of Mitutoyo micrometers, bore gauges, calipers and indicators. Tell our team what you need and they can quote the instruments together.

Is genuine Mitutoyo available in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. General Tech is an authorised Mitutoyo distributor. Contact the team for current pricing, availability and lead time.
