For precise inspection of API threaded connections, rod style setting standards are used to calibrate crest diameter gauges from MRP®. Two precision ground rods that have been lengthened in accordance with API Specification 5B make up each set of standards. The connection size and serial number are labelled on the rod sets, which are firmly fastened together. For precise inspection of threaded connections, the rods set the location of the thread shoe and the separation between shoes.
